Sean Paul’s “Give It Up To Me” Goes Platinum in UK Four Months After Gold

The 2006 dancehall-pop anthem with Keyshia Cole reaches 600,000 UK units just four months after going Gold

Sean Paul’s 2006 hit “(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me,” featuring American singer Keyshia Cole, has officially been certified Platinum in the UK for 600,000 units by the British Phonographic Industry on Friday, July 31, just four months after earning Gold status on March 27.

The latest milestone adds to the song’s growing list of international certifications, including Gold from the Recording Industry Association of America (500,000 units in the United States), Platinum in Canada (40,000 units), and Gold status in Greece after surpassing 100,000 streaming units.

This latest achievement marks another milestone for Sean Paul, whose mid-2000s run produced multiple crossover hits and showcased his ability to seamlessly merge dancehall with mainstream pop audiences worldwide.

“(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me” was produced by acclaimed producer Donovan 'Don Corleon' Bennett, who collaborated with Sean Paul on several notable tracks during that era, including “Never Gonna Be The Same” (2006) and “Break It Off” (2006) with Rihanna.

While the original version was recorded as a solo effort, the decision to release the Keyshia Cole-assisted version as a single aligned with its inclusion on the soundtrack for the 2006 film Step Up.
