Sean Paul and Keyshia Cole secure Gold in New Zealand
Sean Paul’s 2006 hit “(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me,” featuring American singer Keyshia Cole, has officially been certified Gold in the UK for 400,000 units by the British Phonographic Industry on Friday, March 27 - marking his second Gold certification in a single day, following its New Zealand certification (15,000 units) on Thursday, March 26.
The track adds to an impressive list of global certifications, including Gold status from the Recording Industry Association of America (500,000 units in the United States), Platinum certification in Canada (40,000 units), and over 100,000 streaming units in Greece.
This latest achievement marks another milestone for Sean Paul, whose mid-2000s run produced multiple hits and highlighted his ability to seamlessly merge dancehall with mainstream pop audiences worldwide.
“(When You Gonna) Give It Up To Me” was produced by acclaimed producer Donovan Bennett, who collaborated with Sean Paul on several notable tracks during that era, including “Never Gonna Be The Same” (2006) and “Break It Off” (2006) with Rihanna.
The single, distributed by Atlantic Records, has amassed over 438 million views on YouTube to date, while also surpassing 350 million streams on Spotify.
While the original version was recorded as a solo effort, the decision to release the Keyshia Cole-assisted version as a single aligned with its inclusion on the soundtrack for the 2006 film Step Up.
