Popcaan continues international dominance with BRIT Gold certification
Dancehall star Popcaan has earned his second BRIT Gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for his feature on “Come Over,” a 2020 single by British R&B/pop singer Jorja Smith. The track has now reached the UK equivalent of 400,000 units sold. This follows his first UK Gold plaque for “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times),” which was certified Gold in 2022.
Produced by MadisonLST, Izaïah, Pasque, Cadenza, and Popcaan’s longtime collaborator Dre Skull, who also executive produced his acclaimed 2014 album Where We Come From, "Come Over" continues to highlight the deejay’s global appeal.
“Come Over” was released alongside an animated music video, directed by Amber Grace Johnson and animated by Future Power Stations, enhancing the song’s dreamy and sensual vibe. The track has since amassed over 15 million views on YouTube and more than 84 million streams on Spotify.
The Unruly Boss has become one of the most in-demand Jamaican artists, frequently tapped by international acts seeking that authentic dancehall edge.
Popcaan previously earned two Gold-certified singles in the United States: the 2020 hit “Twist & Turn” featuring Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR, certified Gold by the RIAA in November 2024, and the 2015 anthem “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” with English producer Jamie xx and American rapper Young Thug, which was certified in March 2021.
In Canada, “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” went Platinum in September 2022 after surpassing 80,000 units in sales and streams. Popcaan also received a Gold certification in Canada for “Risky,” his collaboration with Nigerian artist Davido, which achieved over 40,000 units and was certified on January 13, 2025.
