Naomi Cowan, a powerful debut album for the Jamaican songstress

Jamaican singer Naomi Cowan isn’t new to the music scene. Coming from a musical family and releasing songs from an early age, she has long been recognized for her artistry. But with her debut album Welcome to Paradise, dropping October 10, Cowan marks a new chapter in her career.

Known as a soulful singer, actress, and influencer, Cowan now delivers her most defining work yet , a seamless blend of reggae, ska, dancehall, and other sub-genres, poured into introspective storytelling that celebrates self-worth, love, and emotional evolution.

“It’s an unreal feeling when you’ve been working towards something for so long; there’s a part of it that doesn’t feel real. More than anything, I’m super grateful for the support, proud of myself and the people I work with, and excited for the world to hear it,” she shared in an exclusive interview with Kaboom Magazine.

Across its 12 tracks, Cowan showcases her versatility from the very first song, “Beautiful Ska,” where she lets listeners experience her vocal prowess. There’s also a standout collaboration titled “Version” with veteran artist Johnny Osbourne, who samples his classic “Rock It Tonight.” Cowan complements it beautifully with a heartfelt verse that turns the track into a modern-day ballad.

This project embodies reggae excellence

“The message I want people to take away is to ‘choose love always,’ and the experience I want them to have is to hopefully recognize that as people, we don’t have to be one-dimensional all the time. We have many aspects to who we are, and we can all be ourselves and still be worthy of the highest love,” Cowan added, reflecting on the message behind the project.

The 12-track project, executive produced by English recording producer Toddla T, also features Runkus as one of the producers on their collaboration “Lonely Love,” a heartfelt single rooted in the essence of traditional reggae.

“We committed to keeping this project anchored in reggae music while investing a lot of time into ensuring that the music was of pristine quality to match the global landscape. Reggae is a global sound and has been a source of inspiration to the world for many years, so I feel a responsibility as a Jamaican artist to ensure that when we release our music, it’s undeniably excellent,” Cowan explained.

Cowan invites listeners on a captivating journey filled with stories that echo her creativity and depth as a storyteller. Tracks like “Cherry On Top” deliver a sweet, feel-good vibe, while “Up To The Time” includes a surprise shout-out from dancehall legend Vybz Kartel, who once again showcases his unmatched lyrical rhymes.

“We committed to keeping this project anchored in reggae music while investing a lot of time into ensuring that the music was of pristine quality to match the global landscape.”

“I hope this moment signifies more sleep! Lol. But seriously, I know this moment will signify another chapter in the journey of the bigger story of reggae music taking its rightful place in the world,” she concluded.

As the final track, “Imagine,” closes the album, it ties together the project’s narrative - a fusion of vocal range, thoughtful production, and musical elements that even touch on classical influences. It’s a rich, cohesive body of work that stands as a testament to Cowan’s growth and artistry.

The album, distributed by Easy Star Records, is now available on all major streaming platforms.
