Mental Chung Introduces ‘Reggae Barque’ With New Album The Psychic Realm

The Jamaican artiste and filmmaker embraces AI as part of his one-man creative process, producing six tracks and six cinematic visuals for his upcoming album The Psychic Realm, due October 10

Jamaican artiste and filmmaker Mental Chung, also known as $imi and Rastafareye, is combining music, filmmaking and AI to create cinematic Dancehall visuals while introducing a new sound and storytelling concept he calls “Reggae Barque.”

Describing himself as a “one-man team,” Chung handles everything from songwriting and production to visuals through his Art Creed Records label, using AI as part of his creative workflow.

The creator of the Dutty Bwoy series also plans to revive the project with a new approach. He explained that producing the series in the past was highly technical, but AI has opened new possibilities for bringing it back.

“It’s the return of message and mysticism in music in an evolved way. After eight years in music, I’ve found my pattern and role to play.”

For now, his focus is on music and film, particularly The Psychic Realm, his upcoming six-track album set for release on October 10, 2026. The project will be accompanied by six cinematic videos and blends spirituality, sensuality, motivation and strength.

At the centre of the album is “Reggae Barque,” which Chung describes as more than simply a musical sound.

“It’s the return of message and mysticism in music in an evolved way,” he said. “After eight years in music, I’ve found my pattern and role to play.”

According to Chung, Reggae Barque explores emotional healing, perseverance and inner strength, with its storytelling built around confronting personal and spiritual battles.

“Reggae Barque is about emotional healing, going into the dark to pull someone out,” he explained. “It transforms weakness to strength and ascends one to new heights where we unify.”

Chung also hopes his one-man creative process can encourage younger artistes and filmmakers to see AI as a tool for greater independence rather than simply a threat.

“If the youths know they have their potential, they can integrate AI into their workflow and come to see that it’s a time where you don’t have to depend on anyone else,” he said.

Singles and visuals from The Psychic Realm are already being released ahead of the album’s October 10 arrival, while Chung is also developing a full-length feature film.
