Following the celebration of a massive, record-breaking Trinidad and Tobago Carnival season by winning his 12th Road March Championship title, the most any artist has ever achieved, Soca superstar Machel Montano will return to New York on August 8th for another high-energy dance festival at the vaunted Rumsey Playfield stage in the heart of Central Park.
“The opportunity to perform at Central Park after achieving this 12 Road March milestone fills me with excitement," shared Machel. "NYC has always been one of my greatest audiences and has supported my growth as an artist. From sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center, and UBS Arena, to now stepping onto the iconic Central Park stage to present my Encore performance, alongside all the theatrics we delivered to audiences during Trinidad Carnival, this moment will be nothing short of legendary. We ready to Give Dem Performance!”
To capture the Road March title in Trinidad and Tobago, Montano edged out fellow soca heavyweights Voice and Bunji Garlin, noting that his frequent appearances across Carnival stages played a major role in securing the crown. Of the seven trucks he performed on from Monday night into Tuesday, judges ultimately counted three toward the final results.
His winning single, “Encore,” released one month ago, has already amassed over 4.1 million views on Youtube to date, perfectly timed for the Carnival season. The track was played 171 times across official judging points over the two days. In comparison, Voice’s “Cyah Behave” recorded 127 plays, while Bunji Garlin’s “Still a Road Man” tallied 91.
With a career spanning more than 40 years in the soca industry, Montano is now set to thrill New York once again, continuing his legacy of delivering electrifying performances to one of his most loyal international audiences.
