Trinibad artistes known for songs that promote gun violence will be excluded from this year’s Tobago Carnival, following recommendations from police as part of efforts to maintain safety throughout the festival.

The move follows discussions between police and the Tobago Promoters Association over security and the safe execution of Carnival. Senior Superintendent Rodhill Kirk said authorities have observed how certain songs and their lyrical content can influence crowds. “When you go out and observe it yourself, as soon as some songs come on, people get hyped based on the lyrical content. People react to it,” he said.

Tobago Carnival is scheduled for October 30 to November 1, with the island expected to host a packed calendar of activities throughout October.

The decision comes at an interesting time for the genre dubbed “Trinibad,” as Kashif Sankar, formerly known as Kman 6ixx, has recently sought to distance his image from gang culture. The Trinibad star dropped “6ixx” from his stage name, denied having any gang affiliation and has publicly pushed for peace with longtime rival Medz Boss, who has been in custody for some time.

Kman recently went a step further, surprising fans by posting “Free The Man” in support of Medz Boss. The post included clips of him vibing to his rival’s biggest hit to date, “Just Do It,” which has amassed more than 32 million views.

The gesture generated plenty of reaction among fans, with many welcoming the apparent peace between the two Trinibad artistes. One surprised supporter commented, “Mi neva wudda think Kman 6ixx wud be saying dem words dr, peace forever man.”

Both artistes have previously faced travel restrictions in the Caribbean. Kman was barred from entering and performing in St. Kitts and Dominica over national security concerns, while Medz Boss, whose given name is Joseph Ollivierre, was denied entry into Guyana earlier this year ahead of a scheduled performance.
