Trini soca star Kes continues global ascent
Trinidad and Tobago’s global musical influence continues to rise as soca sensation Kes makes a notable appearance in the newly released Netflix film Madea’s Destination Wedding with his celebratory track “Love it.”
The 2019 track, a joyful dancehall/reggae fusion penned by Kitwana Israel, has amassed over 5 million views on YouTube and is now featured on the soundtrack of Tyler Perry’s latest blockbuster, Madea’s Destination Wedding, which premiered globally on July 11.
Its inclusion follows Kes’ historic run at New York City’s Central Park SummerStage, where he became the first soca artist to headline and sell out two consecutive nights at the iconic venue.
This milestone comes on the heels of Kes’ immersive success with “Cocoa Tea,” which has remained on the U.S. iTunes Top 100 Reggae Chart for over eight months and amassed more than 17 million YouTube views across all versions.
His latest achievement reinforces his status as a cultural ambassador for Caribbean music on the global stage, with fans celebrating another proud moment for Trinbago culture.
Madea’s Destination Wedding embraces Caribbean vibes, set and filmed in the Bahamas, most notably at the breathtaking Atlantis Paradise Island resort. Kes’s uplifting track “Love It” perfectly matches the film’s vibrant island energy.
Kes also received official credit at the end of Madea’s Destination Wedding, further solidifying his place in this worldwide celebration of Caribbean creativity. More than just a soundtrack feature, “Love It” stands as a vibrant symbol of the region’s joy, artistry, and expanding international influence.
