Kabaka Pyramid announces 10-track EP

Grammy-winning reggae artiste Kabaka Pyramid is set to release his new 10-track project, The Lyrics Tape, on August 28 via Bebble Rock Music and Ghetto Youths International.

The project arrives 15 years after his debut EP, Rebel Music, which helped introduce Kabaka to the reggae scene and showcased the lyrical prowess and sharp deejaying ability that would become central to his sound. The Lyrics Tape features 10 tracks, including the previously released “Rotation” and “From Weh Day,” alongside eight unreleased songs, including “Stand Firm,” featuring Pressure Busspipe.

Reflecting on the project and its connection to his beginnings, Kabaka described The Lyrics Tape as a return to his foundation.

“15 years later. Rebel Music - The Lyrics Tape. Part 2 to something that started with just a dream, some lyrics and beats,” he wrote on Instagram.

Kabaka explained that most of the project was created between March and June this year after he lost a significant amount of music from his Ableton sessions folder. The setback led him to strip the creative process back to the basics and focus on what he considers his greatest strengths: beats and lyrics.

“I’m glad to present to you The Lyrics Tape. An ode to my foundation and roots as an artist. Reggae and Hip Hop merged seamlessly into one sound with the message still the same,” he added. “This is for my core fans who apprecilove what makes me unique as an artist. My own space, not competing with anyone. I hope when it drops you all resonate with di vibration.”

The 41-year-old artiste, born Keron Salmon in Kingston, has released two EPs to date, beginning with Rebel Music and followed by Lead the Way in 2013. His debut studio album, Kontraband, arrived in 2018, while his sophomore album, The Kalling, earned him the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2023.
