Joel Engineer Locks Vybz Kartel and Popcaan for New "Unlocked Riddim"

A major career milestone for the young producer


Emerging producer Joel Engineer is continues to make huge steps in dancehall industry in tenn ages, with the release of his latest project, the Unlocked Riddim, featuring two of the genre’s biggest stars, Vybz Kartel and Popcaan.


The young producer, who is also the nephew of international dancehall superstar Popcaan, views the project as a major breakthrough in his rapidly growing career.


“It feels amazing to have produced a Vybz Kartel song. It’s even more special to have both Popcaan and Vybz Kartel on the same riddim,” Joel shared. “I attended the same prep school as Kartel’s children while he was incarcerated, and I also have a surprise track coming with one of his sons.”



The Unlocked Riddim is expected to feature at least six tracks, giving listeners a mix of sounds and styles while showcasing Joel’s versatility behind the boards.


“I hope fans can appreciate the music and see my growth as a producer,” he said. “I want them to really connect with each song, not just listen to it.”


According to Joel, the project offers something for every type of dancehall fan. Vybz Kartel’s contribution brings a vibrant summer-party vibe, while Popcaan delivers a harder-edged, street-oriented sound.

With two of dancehall’s most influential voices featured on the project, the Unlocked Riddim represents a significant accomplishment for the young producer.


Joel Engineer has been immersed in music from a young age. Growing up in the influential Unruly Camp, he drew deep inspiration from his mother, uncle, and Grammy Award-winning producer Notnice, who is also the father of his younger brother. Their illustrious careers have left indelible marks on the global music landscape. Now, Joel is ready to make his own impact with a fresh and compelling sound.
