Jamaica's rising Filmmaker Jamar Cleary is set to debut his compelling documentary, 'Raizal: The Jamaican-San Andrés Connection', at the Films That Move Festival on December 8, 2024.

'Raizal: The Jamaican-San Andrés Connection' delves into the unique cultural and historical links between Jamaica and the Raizal people of San Andrés, Colombia. Through stunning visuals and heartfelt storytelling, Cleary explores themes of migration, identity, and resilience, offering audiences an intimate view of the Afro-Caribbean Latino experience.

“I’m thrilled to premiere this documentary in Jamaica, where these connections resonate deeply,” says Jamar Cleary, a University of the West Indies film production student. “The Raizal people’s story is one of strength and shared heritage, and I hope this film ignites a greater understanding of the cultural ties that unite us.”

Known for spotlighting powerful and transformative stories, the festival will be held in Kingston, celebrating narratives that drive social change and honor cultural heritage.

The premiere will include a special screening and a Q&A session with Cleary, providing attendees the opportunity to engage with the filmmaker about his journey and creative process.

Cleary’s work has already gained international recognition, including its screening at CERLAC’s Art&Lit Fest in Toronto earlier this year. His dedication to exploring Caribbean narratives positions him as a rising voice in the region’s creative industries.
