Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, along with the Ministry of Sport, revealed on Wednesday that the redevelopment of the National Stadium in Kingston is set to begin in early 2026, with completion projected for 2029.

The stadium’s capacity will expand from 28,000 to over 35,000 and will feature a wide range of world-class upgrades, including anti-doping facilities, advanced media zones, a modern sports museum, upgraded lighting, premium seating, lounges and suites, new concession areas, and dedicated conference and meeting rooms.

Led by UK-based firms Ryder Architecture and CAA Icon, the project is designed to meet international standards set by FIFA and World Athletics. Ryder Architecture has already unveiled sleek new design plans, offering a glimpse into the future of Jamaican sport.

Additional upgrades include a roof covering most of the bleachers and modern infrastructure designed to elevate the stadium to international standards, making it suitable for hosting major football and athletics competitions. The facility is also expected to feature a sports museum and VIP boxes.
