Easily one of the most natural collaborations in dancehall, Iwaata and Aidonia link up for the explosive new single, “Never Basic”, produced by Grammy-nominated hitmaker Troyton of Troyton Music.
Fusing an old-school riddim with a modern twist, the track was officially released on Friday, June 6, via 21st Hapilos Digital Distribution Inc.
It’s a powerful reminder of dancehall’s golden era, infused with today’s flair. Iwaata delivers smooth, melodic vocals that contrast seamlessly with Aidonia’s signature rough-edged intensity. Together, they craft a lyrical narrative celebrating confidence, style, and individuality — never average, always “saucy.” A standout line, “Good music lives on fi ages,” underscores the timeless essence of true dancehall artistry.
“Never Basic is more than a song — it’s a vibe,” says Troyton, whose production credits span reggae, pop, and hip-hop with multiple Billboard and Platinum recognitions. “Working with Iwaata and Aidonia is always a pleasure. Their chemistry on this track is undeniable, and the energy they brought to the studio made the process electric.”
He adds, “This song is authentically dancehall. I intentionally crafted the riddim to feel nostalgic but gave it the right global flair to resonate worldwide. It’s contagious — the beat pulls you in, and I truly believe it has the potential to be a global anthem”.
Troyton, born Troy Hinds, is the mastermind behind major dancehall projects like the Intoxxicated Riddim, which delivered hits such as “7Eleven” by Dexta Daps and “Big Deal” by Chris Martin. His hit-filled catalog also includes “Trigger Work It” by Aidonia, “Run Een” by Mavado, and “Top Rank” by Masicka and Bounty Killer. As the head of Troyton Music, he has been a driving force in the genre for over two decades. In recent years, he has worked closely with Iwaata, most notably on the successful single “Likkle London”, which has racked up over 3.5 million views on YouTube.
