Busy Signal receives the 2026 Reggae Icon Award from Prime Minister Andrew Holness
International dancehall and reggae star Busy Signal and reggae veteran Wayne Wonder were among the honourees at Jamaica's 2026 Independence Grand Gala, receiving the prestigious Reggae Icon Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Jamaican music and culture.
The annual celebration, commemorating the nation's 64th anniversary under the theme “United in Celebrating Resilience,” took place at the National Stadium before thousands of patrons.
Busy Signal, whose given name is Reanno Devon Gordon, was recognised for his enduring influence on reggae and dancehall and for helping carry Jamaican music to audiences across the globe. Wayne Wonder was also presented with the honour, celebrating a career that has spanned decades and produced some of reggae's most beloved classics.
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness and Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia “Babsy” Grange presented both artistes with their awards and citations. During the presentation, Grange praised Busy Signal as “one of Jamaica's musical powerhouses.”
The celebrations continued as Busy Signal took to the Grand Gala stage for a stirring performance that brought the National Stadium to life. Opening with his patriotic anthem “Jamaica Love,” the dancehall star was joined by thousands of voices singing in unison, creating one of the evening's most memorable moments. He then delivered a medley of some of his biggest hits, reminding the audience why his music continues to resonate across generations while perfectly capturing the spirit of this year's Independence celebrations.
