Dancehall star Govana steps into production as he joins forces with acclaimed video director and executive producer Ruppi of The Now Or Never Club for a new visual-led project titled Bobby Lane Project.
Led by the track “Top Lawyer,” the project spotlights Spanish Town’s Bobby Lane, framing the community through realism and lived experience rather than sensationalism. The song explores social realities and street dynamics through reflective storytelling, anchored by Govana’s sharp lyricism and grounded perspective.
Bobby Lane Project is structured as a juggling-style release, presented differently through individual singles and a short film, with each song standing on its own within the wider narrative. Speaking on the process. “We started putting this together last year, but the hurricane pushed it back. We regrouped and moved forward again when the place was ready to feel this kind of hardcore music,” Govana explained.
The project also features “Pam Pam” by Skeng, alongside tracks from Skippa on “Like We” and Chronic Law, with more tracks set to be added. The riddim is created by producer DinDin of Hemton Music, with guitar work by Alpha.
Emphasising the project’s concept, Govana added, “We never wanted this to be a regular juggling. Everyone in the movie represents a different track - there are no collaborations on this project.”
Bobby Lane sits at the heart of Spanish Town, the community where Govana and Skeng hail from, and a place that has played a formative role in shaping their musical identity and storytelling.
